Different languages have different pronunciation difficulties. For example, Japanese people have difficulties with the L and R sounds, since the sounds by those letters are not familiar to them.
Personally, I had no problems with R and L sound when I was learning english at a young age. Therefore, I have a personal hypothesis that young people have better flexibility over accents.
